The good purpose

Mike and I (Glenn) have taken up this Challenge in aid of Dance4Life, an international charity which actively involves young people in pushing back HIV and AIDS. I started working with one of Dance4Life’s co-founders in 1994 on the Bevrijdingspop project in Haarlem where I was reponsible for the security, and when Dance4Life was established in 2003, Glenn immediately came on board. His company, SPIN-IT, is also partner of Dance4Life International.

The concept of Dance4Life is to provide knowledge about HIV to youth in schools around the world using their own culture – music, dance, media and icons – and by bringing them together every two years at the Dance4Life Event, where they are linked by satellite and see each other dancing the same dance for the same cause. Dance4Life provides an opportunity and a global platform for young people to push back HIV and AIDS, and fight the stigma and taboos that surround them. In the period 2006-2015, Dance4Life will involve at least one million young people as ‘agents of change’ in at least 100 countries all over the world. These agents of change will break silence, learn life-skills, raise money for local community HIV prevention projects, mobilise those around them and advocate towards their governments to keep their promises regarding the Millennium Development Goals.

The money raised by Team AmdaK will go directly to the Dance4Life Projects in the country where they will be completing the Challenge – Senegal.
